Tile Quantity Calculator
Enter your room size and tile size — get the area, the number of tiles and the boxes to order, with wastage already counted. No sign-up, nothing to download.
Tiles-per-box varies by brand — confirm the coverage printed on the carton (or send us your room sizes on WhatsApp and we'll do it for you).
How the calculation works
Room area = length × width. Each tile covers its own area (a 600 × 600 mm tile covers 0.36 m², about 3.88 sq ft). Divide room area by tile area, add wastage, and round up to whole boxes. The calculator does exactly this — and rounds up, because tile shops sell full boxes.
Why you must add wastage
Every room needs cut tiles at the edges, some tiles break in transit or cutting, and a few spares should sit in storage for future repairs — a discontinued design is nearly impossible to match years later. 10% extra is the safe default; go to 15% for diagonal laying, large-format slabs or rooms with many corners.
Order everything in one batch
Tiles made in different production batches can vary slightly in shade and size. Order the full quantity — including wastage — in one go, and check that every box carries the same batch and shade number. This is the single most common tile-buying mistake we see, and the easiest to avoid.

Frequently asked questions
How much extra should I buy for tile wastage?
Plan 10% extra for straight-lay floors and 15% for diagonal patterns, large-format slabs or rooms with many cuts. The extra covers cutting, transit breakage and future repairs — matching a discontinued tile years later is nearly impossible, so spare boxes are cheap insurance.
How many tiles come in one box?
It varies by size and brand: 600×600 mm tiles are typically 4 per box (~15.5 sq ft), 600×1200 mm are 2 per box (~15.5 sq ft), and 300×600 mm are usually 8 per box (~15.5 sq ft). Always confirm the exact box coverage printed on the carton before ordering.
Why should all tiles be from the same batch?
Tiles from different production batches can differ slightly in shade and size — visible only after laying, when it's too late. Order the full quantity including wastage in one go, and check that every box shows the same batch/shade number before it leaves the shop.
Does this calculator work for wall tiles too?
Yes — measure the wall's width as 'length' and its height as 'width', and calculate each wall separately, subtracting large openings like doors and windows. For bathrooms, calculate floor and each tiled wall individually, then add the areas together.
